They gave a second life to these comfortable shoes, filled of memories of the fifties. With vivid and bright colors sample shoes, the mediterranean spirit is never far. Manufactured by artisans who are the guarantee of a traditional hand-crafted savoir-faire, the process might lead to slight differences from one model to another. These small differences are making the charm and the DNA of every pair. And finally, after nearly 5 years of existing and many sale points around the world, a first store has opened in Le Marais, rue de Turenne in Paris. From January 29th to April 5th 2014, Galerie des Galeries opens its doors to belgian talented fashion designer Jean-Paul Lespagnard. A former prize winner of the International Festival of Fashion and Photography in Hyères, he has fashioned the Till We Drop exhibition in his own image : quirky and socially conscious. For his first solo exhibition in Paris, Jean-Paul invites visitors to explore his creative process. Drawing from the identically titled 2014 collection, this exhibition evokes the exuberance of life at Mexico’s giant Mayan Riviera hotels and expresses the artist’s take on this artificial paradise, a world steeped in euphoria, sin and freedom. Dressed as a bee and using a series of installations, Jean-Paul Lespagnardtakes us down a guided tour of the rituals and customs of impulse tourism, freed from all material contingencies. As prolific designer Jean-Paul Lespagnard exhibits his work at Galeries Lafayette, several visuals from his Till We Drop project will be displayed in store windows on the rue de la Chaussée d’Antin as well as the store’s first upper floor. photos by Pascal Gillet

LOUIS VUITTON Emprise The emblematic trunk continues its journey through the Louis Vuitton universe. From the initial reality of a tangible utilitarian object, in another dimension a collection of modern, feminine watches and jewelry comes into being. The structural elements of the trunk, the source of its strength and solidity, are transmuted into the aesthetic vocabulary of the Emprise collection. The metal reinforcements pieces, the locks, the nails have each been transformed into minutely repeated decorative themes, outlining perspectives, displaying a distinct femininity and forming a strong signature for a collection deeply rooted in the history of Louis Vuitton. -Photos report by Pascal Gillet

A shopping mecca in which street-wear and high-end design are intertwined, Rei Kawakubo’s Dover Street Market is now open in New York. The seven-floor luxury department store takes visitors on a whimsical exploration of avant-garde fashion design from designers such as Simone Rocha to Jacquemus, all woven into the story of Kawakubo’s own line, Comme des Garçons. With no clear differentiation between women and men’s collections, visitors are encouraged to explore the store with an unconstricted outlook. Non-fashion related attractions include specially commissioned artworks that can be found throughout the store as well as a Rose Bakery pop up on the first floor. Kawakubo gave designers creative freedom to model their respective spaces in a manner that architecturally represents the designs; a key highlight being the permanent Prada space enveloped by large scale Pierre Mornet murals pursuant to the Spring/Summer 2014 collection. In Kawakubo’s own words, Dover Street Market will exist as “an ongoing atmosphere of beautiful chaos”.

In an act of holiday defiance, newly appointed Diesel art director Nicola Formichetti’s studio has been transformed into a Nicopanda pop up store open for the holiday season. Envisioned by Formichetti’s assistant Prince Franco, the shop merges downtown culture, fashion, and performance into a collaborative space inspired by Franco’s childhood trips to laser tag arenas. Nicopanda inspired graffiti illuminated by black lights envelop the entire studio, creating a neon haven for downtown culture that offsets the neutral area of Tribeca. Along with the newly designed holiday Nicopanda gear, visitors can pick up last minute gifts from downtown designers such as Forfex, Illesteva and Baron Von Fancy. Performances by musicians such as Ian Isiah and Princess Nokia (Wavy Spice) as well as an in house production studio available to shoppers are just two ways in which the Nicopanda team is turning an otherwise linear activity into an all-encompassing event.
